The Sprintcar
Control Council of Australia (SCCA) began planning the
formation of Sprintcars Australia in 2005. The SCCA
completed a comprehensive business review of its operation.
It was acknowledge that the SCCA needed to expand its
management in order to cope with the demands of the growing
sprintcar category.
The number of sprincar drivers was constantly increasing,
the workload for volunteer officials was becoming
increasingly demanding and the need to grow sprintcar racing
outside the aspects of competition alone was evidently
becoming a very important matter.
The SCCA reached a decision that the Association would
remain as its existing Incorporated body, retain the
existing Constitution and operate as Sprintcars Australia.
A bold innovation stemming from the introduction of
Sprintcars Australia was the recruitment of an Operations
Manager. The duties of the Operation Manager include:
- Elevating the promotion of sprintcar racing
- Improving the media presence
- Proactively addressing enquiries and issues raised by
competitors, promoters, series organizers and other
stakeholders
- Identify national sponsorship opportunities
- Proactively liaise with promoters, track operators and the
National Association of Speedway Racing (NASR) on safety
standards and OH&S issues
- Improve communication with Government authorities and
speedway stakeholders
The SCCA also introduced a management team to oversee the
effective operation of Sprintcars Australia. The management
team works with the Operations Manager to formulate plans
and put processes in place to ensure that the overall goals
of Sprintcars Australia are reached.
Sprintcars Australia began operating in October 2007.
Mr Ross Allen, from Newcastle NSW, was recruited as the
inaugural Operations Manager and he currently remains in
that position.
