Australian 360 Sprintcar Championship Countdown
Ross Allen posted Monday February 8, 2010.
DARREN HICKMAN
Just nineteen (19) days to the 2010 Australian 360 Sprintcar Championship and the Sprintcars Australia website will introduce the leading contenders in the build-up to the Championship Chase. The Championship will be contested at Murray Bridge Speedway, South Australia over two nights on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 February 2010.
One of the serious interstate competitors is Victoria’s Darren Hickman. Hickman came close to grabbing the title in 2008 when he finished third behind Ryan Jones and Stephen Bell. He has set one of his main goals as winning the Australian 360 Championship and two years ago he came oh so close.
One of the real strengths of the 44 year old Bendigo sprintcar driver has been his consistency in very reliable machinery and that will be one of the features of his record that will keep him right in contention for this year’s title.
In the nine (9) race meetings that he has contested this racing season, Hickman has three top ten A Main finishes. Back in early November 2009, he finished seventh in the Bordertown Sprintcar Cup. On 19 December, Hickman finished fifth in round 3 of the Sprintcar Allstars Series at Warrnambool and on 16 January, he stepped onto the podium with a third place finish in Round 7 of the SRA Victoria Sprintcar Series at Heartland Raceway, Moama.
Hickman appears to be striking form at just the right time for his shot at Championship glory.
